NSW Mitre 10 owner catching 'monster' yabbies in her flooded NSW store

As the flooding crisis continues in regional NSW, a hardware store has been inundated with yabbies.

Forbes Mitre 10 owner Jacinda Acheson has shared footage showing how her flooded store more closely resembles a dam than its usual state, with a series of yabbies swimming around.

Acheson has told 9News more than 50 yabbies have ended up displaced in her shop.

"They were in here everywhere The water washed them in," she said.

Acheson said she had been working to get them all back to their rightful home in the river.

"I've been catching them all morning and releasing them out the back as the water recedes.

"Poor buggers are just as confused as we are, getting washed out of their homes."

Acheson has shared videos publicly on Facebook of her counting and laughing at the yabbies.

"Oh my god, buddy, you're a ripper!" she can be heard talking to a yabby in one video.

"He's a monster."

The shop owner said she was glad if the videos were able to bring some enjoyment to others.

"My thoughts are with everyone in our communities and the heartbreak they are feeling. If I can make people laugh and forget about their sorrows for just one minute it's better than doing nothing."

Forbes is enduring its second flood emergency in two weeks, with water from the Lachlan River still rising in the Central West town.

Up to 500 homes are believed to have been impacted by the floodwaters.
