Mick Fanning uses jet ski to help flood victims access medicine

Like much of northern New South Wales, Murwillumbah is underwater — and among the heroes helping the town is a very familiar face.

Surfing legend Mick Fanning swapped his board for a jet ski to help out stranded residents.

Local pharmacist Skye Swift put a call out to the community for a ride to work this morning in an attempt to open her pharmacy for residents who need medication.

Skye's brother, Anthony Piggott, said his sister was "determined to serve the Murwillumbah community".

"She put her challenge to the locals, who enthusiastically responded.

"In a collective effort she arrived at her pharmacy with the assistance of two men in a tinny, several 4WDs and also on the back of world champion Mick Fanning's jet ski.

"That's community spirit for you."

Skye wrote a message on Facebook noting she had made it to her pharmacy all thanks to the Facebook community.

"Open til 5pm for urgent supplies," she said.

"There may be a wait so thanks for your patience.

"If your scripts are at another pharmacy, that's no problem. We can help."
