Firefighters have rescued a little cavoodle puppy who found itself stuck underground in a sewer pipe at a New South Wales home.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews were called to a home in Northcote Avenue, Swansea Heights in Lake Macquarie around 1pm to help save the beloved pet.

The puppy had fallen into the opening of a narrow sewer pipe and had plunged about 1.5m down, and was left with no way of climbing out.

Luckily, the rescue crew has an 'animal catch pole'.

They gently tightened the cable loop around the puppy's body and got the animal around a bend in the pipe and lifted it to safety.

The rescue mission was completed in less than half an hour, with the wet puppy handed back to its delighted owner.
