Fifty drivers have been arrested during a two-day drug-driving blitz in NSW's Riverina district.

Police say they swooped on drivers in Wagga Wagga, Tumut, Gundagai, Young, Cootamundra, Naranderra and Temora at the weekend, conducting more than 600 drug tests.

Of the 50 drivers arrested, 48 tested positive to either cannabis and/or methamphetamine.

Police are concerned that so many drivers are driving while under the influence of illicit drugs.

"This operation should also act as a warning to every driver in this state who thinks they may escape the attention of NSW Police," said Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith.

"We will be continuing to conduct these operations in metropolitan, regional and rural areas."
