An allegedly drunk driver is recovering in hospital this morning after crashing his car in Sydney's west last night at Werrington.

The man is believed to have been about four times the legal limit when he lost control, crashing into a power pole before coming to a stop in the front yard of a home.

Meanwhile, a disqualified Sydney driver has allegedly been caught behind the wheel almost eight times over the legal blood alcohol limit in nearby Wakeley.

Police said the 56-year-old man was stopped by officers after his car was seen swerving.

A roadside breath-analysis test allegedly returned a reading of 0.415, while a second test at the police station returned a result of 0.375.

Checks of the man's details revealed his driver's licence had been disqualified from February, 2001, until July, 2016.

He has been granted strict conditional bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on July 6.
