Teenager shot in the leg after police pursuit on NSW Central West

A teenager has been shot in the leg after a police pursuit in the NSW Central West.

NSW Police went to Calarie Road, Forbes, after 3am after pursuing a ute that had been reported stolen.

The ute stopped a Daroobalgie Road and the driver fled the vehicle while being pursued by police on foot.

A second vehicle drove at the officers during the pursuit where police then fired their guns.

A 16-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his left calf and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

He was then airlifted to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.

Two boys, aged 16, were arrested at the scene and taken to Parkes Police Station.

They were not injured.

One has since been released, pending further investigation.

A third teen, aged 16, was arrested at a home on Farnell Street about 12.30pm today.

He was also taken to Parkes Police Station.

A critical incident team will now investigate the incident including the police using their gun.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.

Daroobalgie Road remains closed and traffic diversions are in place.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the incident to come forward.
