NSW Ambulance has apologised after reportedly taking 45 minutes to respond to a fatal hit-and-run in western Sydney.

A 39-year-old woman was pronounced dead on arrival at Westmead Hospital on Saturday night, after she was hit in Guildford by a car whose driver allegedly failed to stop, with Fairfax reporting the delayed response by paramedics.

"NSW Ambulance extends its sincere apologies and condolences to the family of this patient," the emergency service said in a statement on Monday, adding that a review into the incident response is ongoing.
