The safest - and most dangerous - places to be in NSW at night
New research has revealed what the most and least dangerous night-time LGAs are in NSW - in terms of crime and its victims.
Astor Legal crunched the numbers on the NSW Bureau of Crime and Statistic's records for October 2023 to September 2024.
They found that 95,300 crimes against individuals had been committed in that time frame - and a slim majority (51.3 per cent) at night.
The most common type of crime between 6 pm and 6 am was domestic violence (39.3 per cent), followed closely by non-domestic assault (31.4 per cent).
Using this data, Astor Legal was able to establish which NSW LGAs have the most dangerous nights per head, and which have the safest.

Most dangerous: 10, Dubbo regional
The Dubbo regional LGA recorded 1284.6 crimes against individuals per 100,000 inhabitants between 6pm and 6am.
Most dangerous: 9, Inverell
Picturesque Inverell in the state's north recorded 1302.5 incidents per 100,000 people at night.
Most dangerous: 8, Parkes
Parkes - famed for its radio telescope "The Dish" that helped broadcast the first images of the 1969 moon landing - had a night crime rate of 1317.3 incidents per 100,000 people.
Most dangerous: 7, Muswellbrook
The New South Wales town of Muswellbrook recorded 1348.2 night incidents per 100,000 people.
Most dangerous: 6, Sydney
A rare metropolitan outlier among the regional localities that largely comprise the "most dangerous" list, Sydney recorded 1478.2 incidents per 100,000 people at night.
However, as Astor Legal principal lawyer Avinash Singh noted in his examination of the data, the records don't differentiate between crimes committed by locals or visitors.
"Therefore due to high visitor numbers in relation to its population rates should be treated with some caution," he said.
Most dangerous: 5, Broken Hill
Broken Hill in western NSW recorded 1508.3 incidents per 100,000 people.
Of those night-time incidents, 38 per cent involved alcohol.
Most dangerous: 4, Lachlan
Lachlan Shire includes the town of Condobolin (pictured).
The LGA recorded 1694.1 incidents per 100,000 people at night.
Most dangerous: 3, Coonamble
Night-time in Coonamble saw 1934.6 crimes committed per 100,000 people.
Most dangerous: 2, Moree Plains
Ranking second on the "most dangerous" list is Moree Plains, located on the NSW-Queensland border, with a night-time incident rate of 2230.2 per 100,000 residents.
