Steve Roach sacked by 2GB for allegedly bullying young male staff member

NRL commentator Steve Roach has been sacked by radio station 2GB after being accused of bullying a young male staff member at a football stadium.

Roach, who has spent more than a decade as part of the station's Continuous Call team, says he has accepted responsibility for his "part in the argument" that sparked the Sydney radio station sacking him this morning.

He allegedly berated the young man and had a "heated exchange" with a fellow co-host before commentating the match between the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium on August 15, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The argument was with the show's long-running host Ray Hadley, The Sydney Morning Herald says.

Roach was stood down for 24 hours before station management chose to sack him after the staff member made a formal complaint last week.

"I've loved my 13 years at the Continuous Call team calling football. That's my passion," Roach told the newspaper.

He told The Sydney Morning Herald he would "talk at another time" about the incident that ended his career with the broadcaster.

After representing Australia in rugby league during his career playing for the Balmain Tigers and NSW, Roach has gone on to be a prominent commentator for the sport.
