NRL player cleared of attacking police after most charges dropped

NRL player Tom Starling has been cleared of assaulting police, after six of the seven charges against him were dropped.

The Canberra Raiders player was initially charged over a bar brawl at Shady Palms in Avoca on the New South Wales Central Coast, last December.

Police alleged a struggle broke out after the three Starling brothers and another friend refused to leave, all of them charged with several counts of assaulting officers, resisting arrest, and hindering.

Mr Starling was alleged to have reached for an officer's gun during the tussle.

However, today, the majority of those charges were withdrawn after a review of the CCTV found no evidence of the police claims.

Mr Starling's lawyer said his client alleged he had been assaulted by police, but they are yet to discuss if they'll be taking action against the officers involved.

Tom still faces one count of hindering police, which he will defend.
