What can an old Nokia phone do that your iPhone cannot? Take a bullet, it would seem.

A Nokia phone has been credited with saving the life of a man in Afghanistan last week, purportedly stopping a bullet from piercing his chest, when it became wedged in the device.

A photo of the damaged 2013 Nokia 301 was posted by the company’s former design executive Peter Skillman to Twitter on Tuesday.

“A Nokia phone I worked on a few years ago saved the life of a man in Afghanistan last week. The embedded bullet…”

Mr Skillman did not provide any details about the victim, making it unclear whose life the phone saved.

The incident has spurred a renaissance of memes attesting to the durability and reliability of Nokia phones.

One Twitter user posted a picture of several Nokia 3310s being used as a bullet-proof vest.

It is not the first time a mobile device has been credited with saving a life. In 2013 an HTC smartphone saved a Florida man when it blocked a bullet from puncturing his abdomen.
