Trains resume at Sydney's Central station after halting due to 'urgent equipment repairs'

Trains to and from Sydney's Central station have resumed, after all services were temporarily cancelled due to an equipment fault. 

The delays was caused by "urgent equipment repairs" on the network, the Transport Management Centre (TMC) said.

It has advised passengers to delay their travel plans.

Lines affected include the T1 North Shore, Northern & Western Line; the T2 Airport, Inner West & South Line; the T3 Bankstown Line; the Blue Mountains Line; and the Central Coast and Newcastle Line.

"Stopping patterns may change so passengers should also listen to announcements and check indicator boards," the TMC said in a statement.

The outage comes as Sydney swelters through temperatures of up to 36C in the city and 39C in the western suburbs.
