An man has lost everything after a fire ripped through his Adelaide home.

But neighbours say they have “no sympathy”, after it was revealed it was sparked by an exhaust fan in a hydroponic drug room.

Firefighters arrived at the Sheidow Park property just after 10.30pm yesterday and quickly got to work battling the blaze.

The homeowner watched on in disbelief as the inferno caused the roof to collapse.

It took crews 20 minutes to contain the blaze but the home was destroyed, with a hydroponic drug set-up discovered at the back of the property.

Police allege the homeowner was diverting electricity to the cannabis grow room where an electrical fault in an exhaust fan sparked the fire.

Early estimates have put the damage bill at $250,000.
