'No show, no pay' bill gets Senate tick

A government-dominated Senate committee has given its tick of approval to legislation that would immediately cut off welfare payments if jobseekers fail to meet requirements.

The bill, currently before the Senate, will suspend payments if jobseekers fail to attend all required appointments, undertake adequate job search efforts, act inappropriately during appointments or refuse to enter into an Employment Pathway Plan.

In separate dissenting reports tabled in the Senate on Tuesday, Labor called for the legislation to be amended while the Greens recommended it not be passed.
