No rift between Senate candidates: Labor

Labor insists there's no rift between its West Australian Senate candidates Joe Bullock and Louise Pratt, despite previous differences of opinion between the unionist and the gay marriage advocate.

During his campaigning visit to Perth this week, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten was grilled on the whereabouts of Mr Bullock, who was again chosen ahead of Ms Pratt on the WA Labor ticket in the re-run Senate poll.

After the federal Labor leader was pictured between the pair in the local press, Ms Pratt on Thursday publicly admitted she had had many "debates" with Mr Bullock, but insisted they were still close.

"Joe and I have had many debates within the party, and we have also had them in the community," Ms Pratt said.

"Labor is committed to electing two Senators, because that is the strongest opposition to hold Tony Abbott to account for his destructive actions in this state.

"Joe and I had dinner at a fundraiser last night and we are working very closely together in this campaign. We are on a unity ticket."

During last year's tussle for the Senate endorsements, Ms Pratt posted a critique of Mr Bullock on her Facebook page, which labelled him as "anti-marriage equality and against a woman's right to control her own reproductive health".

But shadow employment spokesman Brendan O'Connor said the accusations of Labor disunity, or hiding Mr Bullock, were a "distraction".

"I don't know the name of third Liberal candidate on their ticket, even though she was elected in the first count - I have not seen her walking around with Tony Abbott," Mr O'Connor said.

"No-one seems to be asking Tony Abbott `where is your third candidate?'. Let's focus on the real issues, education, health, jobs."

The third Liberal candidate elected in the September poll was Linda Reynolds.
