The man accused of sexually assaulting and murdering Sydney teenager Mahmoud Hrouk has been refused bail.

Aymen Terkmani, 22, didn't apply for bail, which was formally refused, or come up from the cells when his matter was mentioned at Fairfield Local Court.

He has been charged with murder and aggravated sexual assault, two months after the body of Mr Hrouk, 16, was found at a Fairfield East property a few blocks from the Hrouk family home.

Uniformed officers were forced to intervene outside the court as bearded men wearing hoods swore at the media, damaged camera equipment and hurled one reporter's microphone at a parked car.

"He totally denies the allegations against him," solicitor Fadi Abbas told reporters outside court.
