No Australian Hearing privatisation: govt

The government has dropped plans for immediate privatisation of Australian Hearing.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said the government would consult further with stakeholders about findings of the scoping study into Australian Hearing before making any decisions on future ownership.

That consultation will centre on the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the implications for government-funded hearing services.

Last year's budget provided $12 million for scoping studies into Defence Housing Australia, the Royal Australian Mint, Australian Hearing and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission's registry.

Senator Cormann said the NDIS should be fully running by 2019-20 and that would significantly change how government hearing services are delivered.

In next week's budget, the government is expected to reveal plans for other government assets marked for possible privatisation.
