Nikitah Beadman fearful former boyfriend will get early prison release

A Gold Coast family is vowing to fight soft sentencing after the man who tortured and left Nikitah Beadman to die inside a shipping container is set to appeal his eight-year jail sentence.

Ms Beadman was brutally tortured by former boyfriend Robert Galleghan after she ended their relationship.

"He pushed my head into a coffee table, tried ripping my mouth apart, eye gouged me and repeatedly stomped on my stomach, and said I wouldn't be able to have kids," Ms Beadman told A Current Affair of the attack last year.

She was then bound, gagged, tortured and left for dead inside a shipping container in Galleghan's backyard.

"I actually thought I was dead," Ms Beadman said.

Police filmed the rescue, concerned she would not survive.

"It was evil and depraved what I saw," Sergeant Danny Rahe said.

Galleghan was sentenced to eight years’ prison but is due to appeal his sentence tomorrow.

The Beadman family has been told he wants to be removed from the serious violent offenders list, which will allow him to serve just 80 percent of his jail sentence.

Galleghan has a history of violence and at one time was on the Gold Coast’s most wanted list.

"He is with other criminals, he is with other people like him. So his thought process isn't going to be very clear. He'd be pretty disturbed I think," Ms Beadman told A Current Affair today.

"I think he should just stay where he is for now."

Gallaghen is attempting to get early parole and, if successful, could be released almost immediately.

"He isn't just someone that beat his girlfriend every now and again. He is crazy," Ms Beadman's mother, Kellie, added.

Galleghan's sentencing appeal was due to begin today, but has been adjourned so he can obtain new legal counsel.
