Is Nick Kyrgios too angry for tennis or just determined to win?

Most teenage outbursts are only seen by family and friends - but when you're a tennis star with the hopes of a nation on your shoulders, privacy is a rare luxury, as Nick Kyrgios has discovered.

The 19-year-old has stirred controversy with on-court outbursts at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

He drove two fans out of the arena after yelling at one of them to get off his phone during his win over Andreas Seppi.

Former world number one Evonne Goolagang Cawley said Kyrgios's anger was not good for the game or for future tennis stars.

However, the Canberra teen's mother Nill said Kyrgios's anger was the result of his determination to succeed.

Others have also leaped to his defence.

His former coach Josh Eagle has urged people to give the teen time to mature, while reporter Tony Jones said Kyrgios had become a victim of tall poppy syndrome.

Kyrgios's outbursts have followed him around the world.

He was almost thrown out of the US Open last August after he smashed a ball out of the arena and cursed audibly during a match.

A similar incident took place at Wimbledon in England.

Kyrgios has said he is trying to manage his anger better.

He will take on world number six Andy Murray in the quarter finals of the Australian Open today.
