Second sinkhole forms at WA car park

A sinkhole has opened up in a car park south of Perth for the second time this year.

Shoppers and staff at the Stockland shopping centre in Baldivis were trapped in the car park when the hole appeared yesterday.

Truck driver David Smith was driving through the car park when he suddenly felt the ground shake beneath his vehicle.

Just moments later the sinkhole appeared and his truck became wedged in it.

“I drove off and then I leant to the left.

“I freaked out because I thought I hit a person or car and then I got out and there’s a big hole,”  told 9News.

In February a 15-metre wide sinkhole opened up in the car park.

That was being repaired when yesterday’s appeared.

A Stockland spokeswoman told Nine.com.au it was investigating the incident.

“We have isolated the affected area in the Stockland Baldivis carpark and our contractor has commenced works to repair the hole.

"The safety of our customers is our highest priority and we are investigating the cause of this issue.”
