Bushfire smoke triggers bad air quality warning for Victoria's east

A health warning for poor air quality has been issued for parts of Victoria’s east this afternoon.

Smoke from the numerous fires still burning in the state’s south-east, including the large fires near Licola and Dargo, are currently affecting air quality in the Bairnsdale, Sale, Lakes Entrance, Maffra, Stratford, Heyfield, Briagolong, Boisdale and surrounding areas.

Authorities are urging those with health conditions to stay indoors where possible and to avoid prolonged heavy physical activity.

Those most likely to be affected by the smoke are children, the elderly and pregnant women, the EPA said in the warning.

Those with existing heart and lung conditions are also at risk.
