Three fatalities on Victoria’s roads as horror toll continues to climb

Three people have died in two separate collisions as the state’s horror road toll continues to climb.

Two Chinese nationals were killed in a crash on the Mornington Peninsula, south east of Melbourne, yesterday afternoon.

The elderly couple aged in their 80s were passengers in a car that collided with a truck at Balnarring.

The 52-year-old driver of the other car was taken to hospital with minor injuries.  

And this morning, a woman was killed in Melbourne’s east after the car she was in collided with a number of vehicles.

Police believe the car was travelling along Rosalie Street at about 7.10am when it collided with a vehicle heading south on Springvale Road.

The female driver of the car, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene while her male passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of a van, a 34-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 20-year-old man who was driving the first vehicle was taken to hospital for observation and is now assisting police with their enquiries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.

The currently road toll for Victoria is 121, up from 80 at the same point last year.
