Truck hits police car attending fatal collision in Mildura

A person has been killed in a fatal collision near Mildura in the state’s north west.

Police believe the vehicle travelling on the Calder Highway near the intersection of Castle Crossing Road  in Carwarp when it collided with a truck about 10.45am.

The driver of the vehicle, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

Two male occupants from the truck were treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene.

A divisional police car being used to block off the crash scene was hit by a truck a short time later, causing significant damage to the vehicle but causing no injuries to officers who were not in the car at the time.  

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing and the Calder Highway is closed between Castle Crossing Road and Kirby Lane until further notice.

Victoria's road toll continues to climb with 129 lives lost compared to 83 at the same time last year.
