Salim Mehajer spends birthday back in court appealing severity of sentence

Disgraced Sydney businessman Salim Mehajer has marked his birthday with another court appearance, as he appeals the severity of his sentence for negligent driving and contravening an apprehended violence order.

The now 33-year-old was given a 12-month community correction order and $650 in fines in Burwood Local Court in February over the offences.

The former Auburn deputy mayor today appeared in Parramatta District Court where his barrister, Dymphna Hawkins, had the appeal hearing adjourned to July 18 so a report could be prepared by a Sydney doctor.

The court heard Mehajer had missed his initial appointment with the doctor - scheduled for June 3 - because he was arrested that day for breaching his local court bail for traffic fraud offences.

Judge James Bennett agreed to adjourn the matter but issued a stern warning to Ms Hawkins that all reports her client intended to rely on needed to be served on the prosecution one week before the upcoming hearing.

"So that there's no further delay in the many sets of proceedings that are before this court concerning Mr Mehajer," he said.
