Opal Tower builders linked to new project on government land

The builders of the controversy-plagued Opal Tower have been linked to another luxury development on New South Wales government land.

Builders Icon won the contract for The Harrington Collection in The Rocks in Sydney's CBD.

The development will cover four blocks and nine levels for a total of 58 apartments.

However, despite the troubles that have followed the completion of the Opal Tower, the NSW government does not appear to be taking more control over the development.

The government told A Current Affair the development was signed off by its independent planning commission in January 2017.

The Opal Tower was evacuated on Christmas Eve last year.
