Queensland police arrest man in Brogden cold case

A man has been arrested in relation to the murder of Queensland man Jay Brogden, who was last seen alive more than a decade ago.

The 33-year-old man was extradited to Brisbane from Sydney on Tuesday for an unrelated stabbing incident in Airlie Beach in 2009.

However he is also assisting police with enquiries into the cold case homicide investigation.

Police will not reveal how he is linked to the case.

He has not been charged in relation to the murder.

The arrest comes less than a fortnight after police erected a billboard on the highway at Cannonvale, where Mr Brogden was last seen in April 2007, to encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Detectives say the billboard has sparked numerous new leads in the case, and have urged even more people to come forward.

"We still know there are people out there with knowledge of what happened to Jay Brogden and we urge them to talk to us now," Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said.

A $250,000 reward remains in place for any information leading to a conviction and police will provide indemnity for anyone who is not the principal offender.

The indemnity will only apply to those who come forward before police make an arrest for murder, Det Hansen said.

A coroner in 2015 ruled Mr Brogden died as a result of foul play and referred the case to homicide detectives.
