Teen left in agonising pain after a steel cable ‘whipped him’

A Perth teenager has been badly injured after a dangerous roadside stunt.

The trainee roof carpenter was left bleeding and writhing in pain after being slashed by a steel cable strung across a busy street.

“I have been told I am lucky I didn’t lose my legs, or even death – I am just glad I am here today,” Heath Prince told 9News.

The 17-year-old was driving home from a mate’s house when hopped out at Willeton and ran into trouble – a car drove past causing the cable to break free and whip him across the legs.

The steel cable was tied between a power pole and a street sign across Pinetree Gully road. It had earlier been stolen from the local cricket club.

“I was in agonising pain, I’ve come off motorbikes and this was nothing like that I felt like I’d just lost me legs,” he said.

He was in so much pain he couldn’t even walk to his car.

If the culprits behind the theft are caught, they could be facing up to five years in jail.

The injured teenager hopes they turn themselves in.

“I am actually a bit scared to drive my car now because what can I expect? Something like that happens one in a million,” he told 9News.
