Student never ‘hung from tree with skipping rope’, school says

The mother of a student she claims was hung from a tree at school has slammed a letter from the school principal which states the incident never took place.

In August last year, mum Belinda Yoon claimed her daughter Amber, 10, was hung from a tree with a skipping rope at Queen of Apostles School in Riverton, Perth.

However, school principal Shaun O'Neill wrote to parents this week to say that according to the information available to the school, the incident "did not occur".

"While the alleged assault was not witnessed, a teacher's assistant, who was nearby and supervising, observed a skipping rope with a noose around a student's neck, she immediately ran to her and gently took the skipping rope off," he wrote.

"There was no obvious injury to the student and neither she nor any of the other students spoken to on that day suggested she had been hung from the tree by another student."

He said he had been unable to provide information to parents due to a police investigation into the incident and subsequent legal proceedings, which had recently been withdrawn.

Ms Yoon posted a copy of the letter on Facebook, claiming her daughter had suffered ligature marks on her neck which were visible the next day.

"Explain the blood she started vomiting again?" she wrote.

She claimed Mr O'Neill had put his reputation and the school's ahead of her child.

Catholic Education Western Australia confirmed to nine.com.au that Queen of Apostles School had written to parents this week to advise that by the school's understanding, "investigations and legal proceedings relating to this matter have now been concluded".
