Inmate who carved ISIS symbol into cellmate's head 'sorry'

A radicalised NSW inmate has told a judge he is sorry for waterboarding and carving an Islamic State slogan into his cellmate's forehead as such acts are forbidden in Islam.

But Bourhan Hraichie said he was not sorry for launching an attack on the former soldier, saying that "physical attacks would be okay".

The now 21-year-old was confirming the contents of a letter, which is the subject of a non-publication order, which he wrote to the NSW Supreme Court sentencing judge.

His sentence hearing resumed on Friday, to take account of the letter, which the Commonwealth and NSW prosecutors said maintain his adherence to jihadi views, although he distances himself from Islamic State.

He previously pleaded guilty to four charges including doing an act in preparation for a terrorist act, causing grievous bodily harm/wounding to a person with intent to murder and sending a document threatening death or grievous bodily harm.
