Toorak Road horror section to receive skyrail

One of Melbourne's most congested roads will become home to a half-kilometre long, nine-metre high rail bridge.
Premier Daniel Andrews today announced that Toorak Road at Kooyong, which is often closed by rail boom gates for about 35 percent of the time during morning peak traffic, will be freed up with the construction of an elevated train line.
“Following a lot of different engineering work ... it'll be a rail over, 'sky rail' some people may call it ... it will create new public space underneath," Mr Andrews said.

He added that about 9000 telecommunication cables meet underground at the site, ruling out subterranean works.
