Pedestrian stabbed several times during armed late-night mugging

A man has been stabbed several times in the leg during a violent late-night mugging in Melbourne’s east.

The 31-year-old victim was approached by two offenders who got out of a silver Holden Commodore Sedan when he was walking west along Whitehorse Road in Surrey Hills just before 11.40pm on Thursday, May 9.

The car continued a short distance down the road, while the two men approached the victim and began yelling at him.

The victim, who does not speak English, realised he was being robbed and clutched his satchel containing bank cards and a sum of cash to his chest.

One of the offenders stabbed the victim twice in the leg - causing significant puncture wounds - before he released the satchel.

The men then ran back to the car and fled the scene.  

One offender was perceived to be either Caucasian or Middle Eastern in appearance, about 180cm tall, and was wearing a cap and a dark coloured shirt.

The second offender was also perceived to be either Caucasian or Middle Eastern in appearance, with short curly hair, and was wearing a white hooded top.

Detectives have released CCTV of the vehicle in the hope that someone may be able to provide information on the incident.
