Commuter chaos as buses replace trains on sections of the Sandringham line

Buses are replacing trains on sections of the Sandringham train line after a pedestrian was fatally hit by a train in Hampton.

Passengers can be seen lining up all the way back to Flinders Street Station for buses departing from the National Gallery of Victoria on St Kilda Road.

"The yet to be identified woman died at the scene," a police statement said.

It is believed the woman’s death was an accident.

Passengers for stations between South Yarra and Ripponlea are advised to take a replacement bus service from Parliament to South Yarra or catch Yarra Trams route 58 from Queens Street to South Yarra.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined with police preparing a report for the coroner.
