Balaclava-clad group repeatedly stab father in violent home invasion

Four men in balaclavas have forced their way into a Melbourne home and repeatedly stabbed a father.

Police said the group forced their way into the Station Road home in Cairnlea about 2.50am and were confronted by a man who was home with his family.
The 50-year-old tried to fight off the men before being stabbed multiple times.
He was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.
A 33-year-old woman and three children aged five, 16 and 17 were not injured.
The offenders are then believed to have fled south on Station Street in a white Holden Commodore station wagon.
