Keep clear! Superload carrying transformer takes to Melbourne roads through the night

Roads were blocked in Melbourne overnight as a massive 320-tonne superload weaved its way through the city’s south-east suburbs.

The 70-metre long load, carrying a transformer, was taken from Glen Waverley to Melton last night, travelling at speeds of between 15-20km/h.

That’s the first leg of its journey through Melbourne en route to its final destination of Murra Warra, north of Horsham.

The transformer on board is essential to the operation of a windfarm.

Its next move will be from Melton to Bungaree tonight and is expected to arrive at Murra Warra at 4pm tomorrow.

Its sheer size makes it difficult to pass with authorities recommending anyone on the roads at that time to plan their trips accordingly.
