Darwin fishermen rescued after spending two days in crocodile-infested waters
Two fishermen have been airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital after being stranded in a tree for two days on a crocodile-infested river.
The men in their 20s were on a fishing trip on the South Alligator River, around 200 kilometres east of Darwin, when they became stranded.
They were forced to climb up a tree when their boat partially sank, leaving them without any safety equipment or supplies aside from a fire extinguisher.

The alarm was raised when their boss realised they hadn’t returned from the fishing trip and hired a charter helicopter to search for the men.
The fishermen used the fire extinguisher to get the helicopter’s attention.

Rangers and friends transported the men back to the car park of the South Alligator boat ramp.
The men were treated for extreme dehydration and severe insect bites by the Careflight medical team which had flown to the area to help.
The men were then airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition.
