A man accused of murdering his father at the home they shared in Paradise, in Adelaide’s north-east has faced court for the first time.

Prosecutors told the court they will need six months to work out how Mr Russo died after his body was found inside the family home on Friday.

His son, Joel Russo, was led into court late today after spending the weekend in the cells.

Police arrested him at the scene, on Urban Avenue then took the 35-year-old to hospital.

His arms were covered in paper bags to preserve any forensic evidence.

His father Frank was a self-described "research scientist" who ran his own website with more than 700 articles and videos.

The magistrate heard a cause of death is yet to be determined with forensic samples to be sent interstate for expert analysis.

Russo made no application for bail and will face court again in August.
