Cigarette sparked SA house shooting

An Adelaide man who peppered a house with bullets has been given a 21-month jail sentence.

But Stefan Gawlik is likely to be released immediately after spending the past 23 months in custody following the incident in July 2017.

In the District Court today, Judge Paul Cuthbertson said Gawlik had overreacted when his girlfriend told him another man had given her a cigarette.

He went to the man's house, first firing five rounds from a semi-automatic handgun at the bedroom window.

His intended target opened the blinds to see someone dressed in dark clothing and ran down the hall as Gawlik fired another four times.

"The overreaction of the offender was extreme," Judge Cuthbertson said.

"The firing of bullets in these circumstances creates a significant risk to any person who happens to be in the vicinity."

He imposed a 21-month sentence with a non-parole period of 14 months.

He also banned Gawlik, who had pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm with the intention to injure or annoy, from possessing a gun in the future.
