Queensland government promises to spend millions on roads

Queensland's government will fund $148 million in "congestion-busting" road projects in the state's southeast if re-elected.

Premier Campbell Newman says his plan includes duplicating an overpass at Narangba, upgrading an interchange at Mount Ommaney and other projects across the southeast.

He says funding for two of the projects will depend on his asset leasing plan.

"It comes from a strong LNP government, a strong team, to actually deal with issues that will actually help people get home to their loved ones on time and safely," Mr Newman said on the campaign trail north of Brisbane today.

Acting Prime Minister Warren Truss said two of the projects on the Bruce Highway will be jointly funded by the federal government under an 80-20 split.

The state government plans to fund another $360 million in road projects to deal with congestion.

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT'S CONGESTION-BUSTING PLAN

- Doubling capacity by duplicating the Boundary Road overpass at Narangba. State to contribute $21 million, federal government to contribute $84 million.

- Upgrading the Sumners Road interchange at Mount Ommaney, also doubling capacity. State to contribute $80 million.

- Upgrading exit 54 on the M1 at the Gold Coast.

- More than $360 million on additional road projects around the southeast are to be announced.
