Newly released impaired WA woman arrested

A mentally impaired Aboriginal woman who was until recently held indefinitely in a West Australian prison has been arrested for assaulting three police officers days after returning to her hometown.

Rosie Anne Fulton, 24, was last week sent back to Alice Springs to live under the supervised care of staff from the Northern Territory Health Department.

Fulton had been detained in Kalgoorlie Prison for 21 months after she was charged over crashing a stolen car, but was deemed unfit to stand trial because she has fetal alcohol syndrome and the mental age of a young child.

On Sunday, she was arrested by Northern Territory Police after they received a report of criminal damage to a residence and the assault of a security guard in Alice Springs.

After her arrest, she allegedly assaulted three officers in the Alice Springs Watch House.

She was charged with damaging property and assaulting police.

Fulton appeared in the Alice Springs Magistrate Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to appear again on Friday.

Investigations are continuing about the alleged assault of the security guard, police said.
