NSW's second major cruise ship terminal will be built in the Port of Newcastle.

The $12.7 million multi-purpose terminal will be able to accommodate cruise ships up to 3000 metres long and will be similar in scale to Sydney's White Bay Terminal.

The Hunter region's tourism industry would significantly grow once the facility was built, Premier Mike Baird said on Tuesday.
