New WA seat to be named Burt

Western Australia's extra seat in the federal parliament after the next general election has been named after one of the state's most prominent legal families.

Burt becomes the state's 16th seat in the lower house, under a draft redistribution of boundaries released by the Australian Electoral Commission on Friday.

The new seat takes territory away from the seats of Canning, where a by-election is being held on September 19, as well as Hasluck, Swan and Tangney.
