New Victorian Liberal candidate for Bendigo West after Lyons withdraws over Facebook posts

The Victorian Liberals have replaced a candidate who quit ahead of the state election after party officials were told of offensive posts on his Facebook page.

Jack Lyons was standing for the marginal seat of Bendigo West but the Liberal Party announced he had withdrawn his candidacy on Monday.

Liberal Party state director Damien Mantach said the administrative committee had unanimously endorsed Michael Langdon as the new Bendigo West candidate.

"The views of Party representatives from Bendigo were canvassed prior to a vote on Mr Langdon's endorsement," Mr Mantach said in a statement on Thursday night.

Mr Lyons is the second Liberal candidate to resign over social media posts ahead of the state election on November 29.

Aaron Lane was the endorsed Liberal candidate for the upper house seat of Western Region when he resigned last week over a series of crude tweets.

Nominations for the vacant Western Region position will open on Saturday, Mr Mantach said.

Seven other Liberal candidates were also endorsed on Thursday.
