'New twist' in Karen Ristevski murder case

There has been a new twist in the case of murdered Melbourne mother Karen Ristevski, according to reports.

Ms Ristevski's stepson Anthony Rickard has told the Herald Sun that the fuel gauge on her car was broken two years prior to her disappearance in June last year.

His father Borce Ristevski has also claimed the gauge was broken, and told police he was testing it when he drove the car on the Calder Freeway on the day of his wife's disappearance.

However, Mr Rickard has raised doubts about whether the gauge could have self-corrected. 

In February, Ms Ristevski's body was found dumped in a shallow grave in Mount Macedon.

Police had conducted extensive searches since she was reported missing on June 30 last year, the day after Mr Ristevski said he last saw his wife leaving their Avondale Heights home.

Mr Ristevski told police his wife left the home after they got into a fight, and that he took her Mercedes-Benz SLK coupe out for a drive later that day.
