New system for MPs expenses

THE PROPOSED NEW SYSTEM TO OVERSEE MPS EXPENSES:

* An independent agency will be set up.

* Monthly disclosures of parliamentarians expenses in an accessible and searchable format.

* The new agency will be able to provide advice and rulings to MPs and senators.

* It will be governed by an independent board and will include a person experienced in auditing, the president of the remuneration tribunal, a former judicial officer and a former MP.

* The government will also continue to implement the recommendations from report handed down in 2016 following the Bronwyn Bishop expenses scandal.
