Fourteen new senators arrive for school in Canberra

Newly elected senators have arrived at Parliament House in Canberra to learn the ropes before they start for their jobs for real next week.

The 14 new senators, as well as Labor's Pat Dodson and Liberal senator James Paterson - who filled casual vacancies in the previous parliament and missed out on a proper induction - attended the event today. 

Labor's Louise Pratt, who is returning to parliament after losing her seat at the 2013 election, said she was excited to get a refresher course.

One Nation's Pauline Hanson was also making her return, two decades after she made her debut in the lower house.

Asked about her tense relationship with fellow newbie senator Derryn Hinch, Senator Hanson said she wasn't happy about some comments he'd made about her.
