New Senate crossbenchers plan co-operation

The new crossbench senators are already planning on how they can work together - but Pauline Hanson isn't yet on the guest list.

"We need to work co-operatively for the good of the nation," Nick Xenophon told Derryn Hinch and Jacqui Lambie on Seven on Sunday.

Senator Lambie said she and Senator Xenophon had worked well together and would continue to do so and Hinch's "heart is in the right place".

"I think that between the three of us, you've got a good starting point here, that's for sure," she said.

She was less enthusiastic about engaging Ms Hanson, but Senator Xenophon said he would try to work with her for the good of the country even though he fundamentally disagreed with her on several issues.

Mr Hinch, who looks likely to win a Victorian Senate seat, said he could work with senators Lambie and Xenophon, and promised not to be obstructionist.

"You have to accept the fact that whichever government will be there ... you must listen to what the people have said and what they're now putting forward," he told Seven.

He expected the Turnbull government to be returned.
