Liberal Nicolle Flint has become the first of federal parliament's Class of 2016 to make a maiden speech.
The MP for the Adelaide electorate of Boothby, who replaces Andrew Southcott, wore her grandmother's callisthenics medal and held her uncle's bible as she addressed the lower house on Wednesday.
"I am blessed to have been so warmly welcomed across the electorate," she said through tears.
