Driver flees on foot after flipping car in Hawthorn

A driver who flipped his car in Hawthorn has fled the scene on foot after an onlooker assisted him out of the vehicle.
Police and emergency services responded to a collision in Hawthorn after reports of a car flipping on Power Street just before 9am.
The white Mitsubishi, believed to be stolen, clipped a number of vehicles and then flipped onto its roof.
The male driver, described as Caucasian in appearance with a mohawk and tattoos on his neck and leg, fled on foot towards Hawthorn Railway Station.
Witness Andre claims he helped the driver from the car, only to watch him flee.
“I saw the guy fall asleep at the wheel and start accelerating towards another car,” he told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell.
“I helped him out of the car, trying to see if he was alright, and before I knew (it) he was half way up the street.
“I looked back again to see if he was there and he was just gone.”
