New loan rules for drought-hit farmers

Drought-affected farmers will no longer be charged default interest and fees on agricultural loans under changes to the banking code.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has authorised updates to the Banking Code of Practice, which also apply to other natural disasters.

"The new banking code will address a significant source of harm to farmers experiencing drought," ACCC deputy chair Delia Rickard said on Thursday.
