New items found in hunt for man who allegedly sexually assaulted Melbourne teen in own home

Police have stepped up their hunt for the masked intruder who allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in her Melbourne home last week.

The young victim was asleep inside her Roxburgh Park bedroom on Friday morning when she woke to find the masked man kneeling beside her.

The man is alleged to have then climbed onto her bed and sexually assaulted the victim while her parents slept in the next room.

The alleged attack was believed to have lasted about 25 minutes.

The man has been identified as aged in his 20s, around 170cm tall, with a thin to muscular build.

Police say he was cleanly shaven and spoke with an Australian accent.

The victim does not know her alleged attacker, but detectives are currently investigating whether she may have been followed prior to the assault.

The alleged rapist is believed to have lingered in the area for around 20 minutes after the assault.

Police have appealed for a woman believed to have encountered the man during this period to come forward.

A search of the neighbourhood has led to the discovery of a balaclava and a pink T-shirt believed to have been dumped by the alleged rapist.

The items are expected to be tested for DNA analysis.

Police are examining the scene for fingerprints.
